Are Babies are getting in the way of avocado toast and grapefruit mimosas ?

Millennials are waiting longer than any other generation, recorded in history, to have babies (according to the New York Times).

The common conception of this generation is that if you want to have FUN in life you must stay forever the awesome aunt or fun uncle…. But to become a mom? Well, that means give up your freedoms. For mamas it means trading fun, for sweatpants and tired eyes. And for dad, well it means they are destined for beer bellies and weekends in bed by 9pm.

We heard it.

We felt it

In fact, it’s because of it, my partner started going out multiple times a week while I was pregnant and why I almost didn’t go through with my pregnancy…

but we did it, we had the baby.

And that transition everyone talks about… that destiny of doom … well, not quite as dreadful as they all say.

We don’t feel like our freedom was taken away entirely, in fact, we don’t even feel like our weekends were taken away.

1- For one, we are younger so our hangovers are mellow to none, our energy is still high, and my body bounced right back.

2- Second, having our nightlife be limited encouraged us to make the most of our days (think Sunday funday, brunch with the girls, day parties and bbqs). And to top it off, we’ve found so many lively events we would have never known about!

3- We are definitely still having fun.

It’s all about switching your mindset from “I can’t”, to a question.

What is most important to me? What do I still want to enjoy most, and what would I love baby to enjoy as well?

The world is so new and full of wonder for a new baby. If the only thing you ever introduce is a quiet calm home, and bedtimes at 7pm. Well, that’s exactly what it will learn to love. Similarly, if you introduce him to live music, dancing, thrifting, street markets and late night painting, well odds are baby will learn to love it all.

We forget that babies strive to see their parents laughing and smiling and having fun! It’s why they do anything they can to make us laugh.

We also forget that we are, in return, such better parents when we can put our most fulfilled and happiest foot forward. (Leads to more patience, less resentment, and open willingness to learn ❤️)

Later is not necessarily better. Why wait until you’re tired and “ready to settle down”? Why experience all your vibrant brunches with grapefruit mimosas and avocado toast before baby?… Why not with baby?

Besides avocado toast is a great first food in baby lead weening, and grapefruit mimosas have amazing antioxidants for your breast milk (once the alcohol wears off )😋

So if you are wondering what the best move is, or if fear of missing out is paralyzing you making any decisions, or if your already in the middle of a pregnancy and starting to stress like I was, take it from me and my unplanned pregnancy, you’ll figure it out! … But one thing is certain, later is not necessarily better. ❤
